First of all a BIG thank you to all who attended the quiz night on Friday 5th Feb and we have managed to raise over £8000 to be split between Alzheimer Scotland and the Ayr United Youth Academy. Once again that is a trully amazing total and thank you all.

Quiz Night 5th Feb 2010

Apologies in advance to those of you who have already contacted me regarding the annual football quiz and the delay in getting information out - here are the formal details below!

I am delighted to announce that further to the resounding success of the last 5 years' events we have again arranged our football quiz for Friday 5th February 2010. The venue will by tradition be the Inn at the Park (kick off 7 for 7.30pm sharp).

The 2009 quiz generated over £9000 of which every penny was split equally between Alzheimer Scotland and Ayr United Youth Academy - many thanks to you all for making this possible. We will again be supporting these 2 organisations this year.

To enable us to get the team numbers sorted out I should be grateful if you could come back to me to confirm whether you would like to enter a team again this year - tickets are £60 for a team of 4 to include a buffet, various prizes, a raffle and an auction, and half time entertainment provided by a surprise guest - great value for money!

Please get back to me no later than Friday 8 January 2010 with your cheque in the sum of £60 made payable to "Aberdeen Branch Ayr United Supporters Club" to secure your team's place. Unfortunately, and due to the lack of space at the venue, we will not be able to offer spaces for any additional teams this year until I have heard back from everyone.

Finally, the success of the event last year was undoubtedly due to your generosity in providing raffle prizes and auction items. It would be very helpful indeed if you could let me know as soon as possible of any auction items you can donate; raffle prizes can be taken along on the night or passed to me beforehand.

There again appears to be huge interest in this year's quiz so act fast to avoid disappointment!

Cheque Presentation

Aberdeen based Ayr United fans came up trumphs again on Saturday when they handed over a cheque for £8,000 to be shared between the Ayr United Football Academy and Alzheimers Scotland.

The money was raised at a football quiz night at the Inn at the Park in Aberdeen in March and at a similar quiz in Ayr later in the year and takes the amount of money raised by the Granite City based Honest Men to a staggering £30,000 shared between the two charities in the past six years.

And as fans' spokesman Colin Inglis explained, the two charities are the beneficiaries of the fans legacy to former Ayr United, Aberdeen and Scotland boss Ally MacLeod who died after suffering from Alzheimers Disease.

"Ally's name will always be revered by Ayr United supporters and it just seems natural that the money we raise should go to the benefit of the development of future Ayr United players and to assist others battling this cruel disease that sadly took him from us."

"Given his legacy in his brief time he had at Aberdeen, where he won the League Cup in 1976, we have had a lot of support locally for what had become a much anticipated annual event and we'd like to thank all those people who turn up every year to gift their hard earned money to two worthwhile causes."

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Ayr United Football Academy, Director Donald Stewart said "The amount of money that a small bunch of Ayr United fans in Aberdeen have been able to raise in recent years is incredible and we are much indebted to them for their valuable support that will help us deliver our youth development programme."

Panda Pals Initiative

I am please to confirm that the Aberdeen branch AUSC will be supporting this initiative and purchasing some panda pal tickets.

The aim of the idea is to purchase 1000 tickets which would generate £15k for the club.

Well.. how time goes by! Who would believe that today 14 years ago the Aberdeen branch Ayr Utd Supporters club was started at Montrose. The weekends away to Newcastle the Killie cup games and the lows of relegation. Never a dull moment. Not to mention the amount of money the Aberdeen bars / Scotrail have made from our travels.

Some key memory moments that I remember, phoning Ayrshire council to "care for my needs", the semi final victory over Hibs and who can forget the Airdrie "riot" while sitting in the executive box.

OH and searching Fife for a bakers that sold a pavlova!!!!! :-)

Dingwall Beckons. Ross County 19th Sept

Travel in place for the journey north to Dingwall. Strange to think that we could probably get to Ayr quicker than we can Dingwall but yet still has the feeling of a "local" game. Will Ayr's fortune change and obtain the 1st win of the season, probably not, but we always live in hope supporting Ayr that one of these days we get a surprise and keeps us coming back for more.

Inverness on Saturday!!

Serious bad planning means that I won't be heading to Inverness this weekend, but the usual 9.25 train from Aberdeen will still contain members of the Aberdeen branch, which is usually a good day out win, lose or draw. (OK some defeats have been painful but by the time we left the train in Aberdeen it has momentary been forgotten.)

Our history of games in Inverness is best described via the Ayr United History web site (History link) but in summary:

It was United's 9th visit to Inverness on 18th January 2003 when earned Ayr their first ever win at the Caledonian Stadium. A 7-3 league defeat on 2nd December 2000 was a disaster but on 27th January 2001 United were 3-0 ahead at half in a Scottish Cup 3rd round tie but Caley banged in 4 in the second half to win 4-3.

Stop... stop.. enough!!!!!!!!!

Well after what has seemed like a lifetime, the football season is almost about to start. Ayr have already played 2 preseason games against Stranraer (4-0) and Wacker Burghausen (3-0)at the end of the pre-season training camp in Austria.

The Flag lives for another day!!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to advise you that earlier this week The Flag was washed.

It's never been the same since it's fateful trip to Amsterdam. The intense stench and general crustiness was showing no signs of receeding.

On the handwash setting and at 30 degrees with some fabric conditioner as well as detergent, The Flag has emerged soft and smell-free, though you will no doubt be relieved to hear The Flag has retained the majority of it's staining that provide so much of it's character.

The Flag has fully recovered and is looking forward to a new season competing at a higher level.

Charity Football Quiz - Somerset Park - 29th May

The football quiz at Somerset Park on Friday night raised 2200 GBP, all of which will be split between Alzheimer Scotland and Ayr United Football Academy.

Thanks to everyone that turned up and contributed on the evening and also to the staff at Somerset Park for helping the evening run so smoothly.

Finally a big thank you to Craig Brown for attending and entertaining us with his stories and also to Faye MacLeod for presenting the prizes on the evening.

Well, the footballing Gods have spoken. It is the h*ll that is Airdrie that awaits and will decide our destiny.It has the potential to be so good and yet so bad.

The game is "live" on BBC Alba and on Radio Scotland on Wednesday night with a 19.45KO.

The 2nd leg on Sunday 24th @ 15.15KO is also to be shown "live" on BBC Alba.

Peterhead Bus Info

The Aberdeen Branch Ayr United Supporters Club are organising a bus to take supporters from Aberdeen to Peterhead for the final league game of the season on 09-May.

The plan is for the bus to leave from near Aberdeen train and bus stations (exact location tbc) at 12:30 returning after the match (approx 17.30)with a drop off in Aberdeen city centre. Depending on numbers, the cost is likely to be 10-12GBP for the return journey.

Well done to Bryan Prunty in winning this years Aberdeen Branch Ayr Utd Supporters club player of the year award. Not sure if the hand ball v Killie was the best moment of the season or any one of the 17 goals (so far) he has scored this season. The award presentation to Bryan is scheduled for after the Alloa game on Saturday 2nd May.

We travel to Brechin this weekend sitting top of the league and remain just one point clear of Raith.. if that remains the situation at 4.45pm on Saturday I for one will ceraintly be happy to have got through this weekend and remain on top.

A big thank you to all who attended the 2009 quiz night and raised a grand total of £6,500. Given the current financial climate that is a excellent achievement and thank you to all involved in making it happen, you know who you are.
Neale Cooper was the guest speaker and was in excellent form also considering that his team Peterhead was due to play Ayr Utd the following day with various comments made to provide suitable humor in the evening.
